Finding housing, arranging documents and learning your way around Ghana are important parts of relocation. But feeling at home also depends on communication. A few memorized greetings can open a door; sustained language learning helps you walk through it with confidence.
Beginning Saturday, August 29, Abibitumi is offering eight Twi language classes together with cultural orientation. Participants may attend at Jamrock Restaurant at the University of Ghana or join online through Zoom, making the program available to people already in Ghana and those preparing their move from abroad.

A practical step for returnees
In his announcement, Ɔbenfo Ọbádéle Kambon speaks directly to recent repatriates and to people who have been in Ghana for some time but have not yet become conversational. The aim is not simply to collect vocabulary. It is to build the listening, speaking and cultural confidence needed for ordinary life.
Language helps newcomers navigate markets, transportation, community introductions and family relationships with more independence. It also signals respect: a willingness to meet people through the language and cultural frameworks already present rather than expecting every interaction to bend toward the diaspora.
Ɔbenfo Kambon brings university-level linguistic training focused on Akan varieties, including Asante Twi, Akuapem Twi and Fante. The short program will not replace years of immersion, but it can provide structure, correction and momentum—the pieces many independent learners are missing.
If Ghana is part of your relocation plan, treat language preparation as seriously as paperwork and housing. The earlier you begin, the more of the country you will be able to hear.
